Tip, Sounds like a great buy to me. Unless you're willing to wait a couple of weeks. <g>

Tippet,

"MB -- no, I saw that price at BBY for the low-end Pavillion ... I was asking if you thought $599 was a good buy"

Tip, if they were offering you $599 to take it off their hands then I'd say it's a good deal. -g- Seriously, I was stuck with a P-233 Pavillion at work and I wanted to strangle the thing. My Micron P-133 that was two years plus older was a faster machine AND much more crash proof. I will never be saddled an H-P PC ever again. The main problem with mine was a super cheap video board that was soldered onto the motherboard. I couldn't believe it.

On the other hand, prior to that, I used an HP-9000 mini-computer that was the best thing since I don't know what. Never crashed and was quick. Of course, those were/are made by a completely different H-P division and are made for specialized applications which don't apply here.

I say pay a little more and get something from Micron(if they've still got the reputation they had 2 1/2 years ago) or Dell. Better yet, find out from some system administrators who is it that locally makes a good box.

FWIW - That's what I'm going to do next time 'round.

Craig

tippet, re: $599 Pavilion
You might want to check if this PC is "Refurbished". I know HP sells refurbished PC's on their web site, maybe they're offering them through the retail channel also.
