The problem here is just like any part of the world where strong ethnic cultures live side by side but never integrate So I guess we should let them kill each other and put up land mines and concertina wire around all of their borders. Great defeatist attitude, John. We should have done the same thing in WW I & II and every other war we've engaged in. It's obviously alright in your eyes to ignore aggression by other countries and just put our hands and our pockets and whistle past the graveyard. You're even so bold as to compare S. California to Kosovo, a place where its non-Serb inhabitants were stripped of their autonomy, their political representation at the national level and basically made "ethnic aliens" in the very land where they grew up. What is worth fighting for John?? Where does this country "plant the flag" and defend its political and moral principles?? Should we wait until the rest of the world is in conflict with their neighbors before we step in and play referee? What value do our principle have if we are unwilling to espouse and defend those principles in regions where we have vital economic interests?? The KLA is not an amourphous body politic walking in step with one another. Some members are more extreme than others. Some are just Kosovars who, upon being evicted from their homes, took up arms to defend themselves, not to pursue some political agenda or enter into the drug trade. And neither are the Serbs all baby killers or ethnic cleansers. But by carrying out the ill fated policies of their leaders and increasing their oppression of the Kosovars, they increased the ranks and strength of the KLA tenfold. The actions of the Serbs were what fully empowered the KLA. Just like Somoza's repression of the Nicaraguan middle class pushed them into the hands of the marxist Sandinistas. The only difference is that NATO will play a role, economically and militarily in controlling and moderating the KLA. These people are sick of war. The Serbs are sick of war. Europe is sick of Balkan war. Give them people jobs and an economic future and YOU'LL BE AMAZED at how well they can learn to live together. It's when they have nothing to lose that they become dangerous. Regards, Ron
