David,

A perception works fine until the concepts behind it have to be tested in the real world. The perception, granted, is very real, and could cause some momentary (at least) havoc on prospects here. And proving them wrong at some point in the future may not result in a remedy

If you take the caveats that I presented in my preceding message to task, then the GTE claims fall apart. It's not the same kind of playing field, by any means, when they don't have a robust offering of their own. Instead, in this instance, GTE is the cable operator acting in the capacity of a common carrier of services for ISPs.

Which gets back to an old argument here, and that is, should the MSO be a facilities based service provider (custodian of the last mile only, providing common carriage), or should they be involved in the delivery of their own proprietary content (through consortium here) as a partner in an ISP venture? Comments welcome.

Regards, Frank Coluccio
