Yes, the stereotype does indicate they are more provincial. However, provincialism does not have anything to do with consumer awareness.

Whatever corporation is going to screw them, their own or a foreign one, it is naive to assume nationality comes into the decision making process. Just because they company is native does give it some benevolent power... the stereotype indicates that Europeans are much more consumer-savy than Americans in regards to realizing this.

Remember the "made in America campaign" here? That did not seem to stop everyone from buying foreign goods. Why do you think we have endless negotiations with our trading partners to enter their markets?

Your assumptions are what advertisers and governments count on.
