This is relatively old news, but one of the computer chains in Silicon Valley has a computer+internet deal that beats buying the computer by itself. You sign up for 3 years of internet at $20/month and they hand you one of those $399 E-Machines or a $400 credit for a more expensive one. I forget what speed it is, but it's way more than the 90 MHz job that suited me fine in 1997 and the 166 MHz job that suits me fine now.

(The 90 Mhz would probably work fine too, but anything under about 250 Mhz is "obsolete" now as far as the computer sellers are concerned. Yeah right!)

I'm making really good money, but I am looking really hard at that deal. If the business model is selling lots and lots of computers to consumers getting on the net, they have some real hard competition.
