Re. SPARC:

I hate to tell you, but you are dead wrong on this one. SUNW is not a fabless chip maker. They make workstations and they buy their CPUs from others (including Intel as you pointed out). The SPARC architecture is owned by the Sparc consortium and there are Sun clones out there that you can buy if you the brand name is too expensive for you. In addition, before the current generation of Ultra Sparcs, the top of the line product was not from Sun Micro, but from Ross Technologies (i.e HyperSparc). How is that similar to 3dfx? Can I extend the Voodoo architecture or Glide and compete with 3dfx?

Re. Glide:

I tend to agree with your final point; 3dfx should probably cut its losses and concentrate on OpenGL. However, as you pointed out, there was a time that they were the only game in town and DxD really sucked. That was a great time to evangelize support for Glide and push it into other hardware platforms. Also, at that time, 3dfx was not a competing card maker. They were a valued partner. Even so, if they can get Creative (and perhaps others) to fully support Glide for the next two years (in exchange for lack of litigation), then perhaps they can add another year to Glide's life.

Bottom line, you can't have it all. Choose to have a smaller pie that you can fit in your mouth, or a share of a much bigger pie that you eat with others.

When will the PC data for May be out? Or have I missed it already? And do we know when "Rampage" will be out? I've heard many rumors that some 3dfx product will be out in September. Anyone cares to speculate?

BTW, Fly! will be out in July 18 (Aug 18?). For those who don't know, this is the most hyped flight simulator...ehm flight trainer ever. It will be the kind of application that can make good use of geometry processor and show off high end cards. Should be interesting.

P.S. Let's not discuss this Glide issue anymore. It seems that the consensus is for OpenGL.
