The US dollar is sound because its principles remain sound. Lose those principles and just what indicator will stare us in the face and remind us not to stray off course?? Gold?? Not hardly.

Is this why the BOJ {Japan Inc}
bought: US Dollar, CAD Dollar {depends on volume?}
Sold or ignored: Euro, Pound, Aussie or gold?
because its principles remain sound. And Euro-land region don't

To lower the YEN, they could have bought gold? But I'd say the price would be much higher. But that said, they could have bough a fair amount of silver.

Maybe that is all the US government has ... maybe they really have no gold.

<<You don't have to suggest. You are blatantly stating that the CBs should purchase the gold that is mined and then store it at gov't expense.>>
I, Sir, never suggested such a thing, I am near the point as to believe that the world would do better were the governments be required to sell all gold - to the very last ounce - today, and never again be allowed to retain(or even store) anything of such great value. I'm guessing most of what they claim to own is (at the very least) double counted.
