Microsoft Announces Three Deals
To Push Net Content Beyond PCs
An INTERACTIVE JOURNAL News Roundup

Microsoft Corp. announced a trio of deals Monday aimed at ensuring the software giant isn't left behind as Internet content spreads beyond computers to wireless hand-held devices and televisions.

The Redmond, Wash., company said it acquired OmniBrowse Inc., a maker of software that customizes Internet content such as news, sports, stock quotes and weather for viewing on 3Com Corp.'s Palm line of handheld computers. Financial terms weren't disclosed. ................. snip ...................>>

I expect that DELL may roll out win CE wireless handheld devices. Right now the offerings from CPQ, Phillips and HWP are not selling well. Yet, the demand for the Palm Pilot has demonstrated that these devices will play a big role in people's lives. I wouldn't be surprised to see DELL profitably roll out win CE internet access appliances (that are better by design).

Stay Tuned.

Best Regards,

Scott

"did i miss some "new" announcement?"

looked at slide presentation. dell saves commissions on internet sales. reduced sales commissions is a tremendous advantage over emachines which shares revenues with staples, office depot, etc. i look for dell to catch and pass these upstarts in the low price arena.

regards

<<Dell sees growth in Net, consumer business

Tech Report
By Cecily Fraser, Janet Haney and Brenon Daly
CBS MarketWatch
June 14, 1999

NEW YORK (CBS.MW) -- Dell is picking up the pace in its bid to refine its corporate strategy by embracing the Internet, it's founder and chief executive said Monday.

"We're one-third of the way through to a fully developed Internet model," said Michael Dell on a conference call ahead of the Bear Stearns Virtual Computer Conference this week.

Dell said the advantages that can come from an Internet model, including e-commerce, service support and management of internal structure, are potentially as great as the original advantages that came from the company's direct model.

Dell also said the company sees opportunity in the small business market. Consumer and small business sales are currently less than 30 percent of revenue, with consumer sales making up one-third of that figure.

"We'll continue to be aggressive in this space," Dell said. "We see it as a profit opportunity, and have the model to go after it, not only in PCs, but in related areas.">>

**I'm sure we may hear more from the conference. These are just the comments that are out in the public domain now.

Bests Regards,

Scott
