I see "management" has replaced my blank alias with "GeorgeCC" in the messages I posted last week. I'm posting this to see if its fixed when I do a regular post. BTW - is there a way to just post, as opposed to responding to a previous message?

In the meantime, I decided to buy a few puts, CMGI, NITE, and EXDS were cooperative today. Back to CC's when things settle down a bit... I think some of the nets haven't been beaten down enough yet.

What led me into this was that I made the mistake of buying ATHM at 94 last week and writing a call against it. Well, maybe it wasn't a mistake after all, time will tell. But I didn't wait around to see. I got out at 84.75 this morning and bought back the call for a small loss (which my put in CMGI made up for). Not being sure whether ATHM was going to take a further beating, I was more confident that CMGI had it coming so I bought a "Texas hedge". The call was 13 5/8 originally, then with the stock at 84.75 the call was was 8.5, so

-94+84.75+13.625-8.5= -4.125 (loss)

What would you have done (assuming you had taken this nasty little risk to begin with)? It seemed like this wasn't a situation where rolling down was the best choice?

The ATHM put at 80 was too expensive for the sideshow/protective put (even when the stock was at 94), so I opted for a recovery put in CMGI.

I had thought about CC's on NITE, again, probably not the right kind of stock for this strategy, but at 52 last friday it began to look very attractive, but it could be even more attractive at 42 or 32... it may be in for more walloping yet. I was satisfied with 100% on my puts, so I'll stand aside for now.

EXDS - has a relationship with EBAY and it hadn't taken much punishment yet, it turned out EBAY hadn't either, but EXDS seemed like a better option.

Here's hoping that my alias is in fact GeorgeCC, and hoping that this Texas hedge/sideshow wasn't too far off topic... while patting myself on the back, I sometimes strain my arm.
