From the story you posted---I did not know this stock had dropped so much. I remember it was in the 8 to 10 range. Lots of upside possible but maybe you are better with MS Works---as you can easily switch to Office once you are in a position to afford it. I started with Works and the transition was straightforward. Maybe a better option for cheap PC buyers because sooner or later they will be switching to Office.

Microsoft (MSFT: news, msgs), Sun Microsystems (SUNW: news, msgs), Compaq Computer (CPQ: news, msgs) and America Online (AOL: news, msgs) and IBM Corp. (IBM: news, msgs) are reported to have agreed on an Internet commerce standard to make online shopping easier and quicker. The so-called electronic wallet would allow online shoppers to enter their personal data once and it would be usable across other Web sites adopting the technology, known as electronic-commerce modeling language. The common format is also backed by Visa USA, MasterCard International, and American Express (AXP: news, msgs), The Associated Press reported.
