when volume is light Institutions often make stocks look heavy or weak by selling small amounts of stock and moving stock down.

The biggest complaint against Nasdaq trading is that market markers there are allowed to short stocks on downtick whereas specialists on the big board are not allowed to do so.

And this is precisely what MMs would do on a downward market - shorting a stock when they see a sell order while guaranteed to close the short position. This could cause a selling spiral at very little risk/cost to the MMs.

Morgan....cnbc stated today that most long traders were staying away from the action....( according to them...25% of the daily volume is day trading....BUT ....about 15% of the action is top of the line Shorts...who ,seeing triple witching...and A major FED meeting upon us....were being aggressive in the market.....bwdik...Tim
