Morgan, There was a recent article in the Wall Street Journal about stock manipulation. Basically, the manipulator establishes their position over a period of time (short in this case) and then manipulates the price by putting in sell orders well below current prices. This causes people to see the orders and starts momentum. When the stock reaches their target, the professional exits the position and leaves small investor holding the bag. The effect on longs who hold is wild stock swings without a real reason. The size of Qualcomm float is still small in this day of large hedge funds etc. Almost any stock can be manipulated if someone has the funds and wants to do so. This is a reason day trading is dangerous. I try to do my own analysis of value and not get too depressed when there are inevitable price reversals.
Good luck to all,
Robert D.
