TC,

Didn't suggest that at all. I'm saying for the sake of what is taught in the Bible that it is better to assume you're wrong than it is to assume the Bible is right.

That is a generalization that can be just as beneficial or just as dangerous as making the Bible an end all, be all. In both circumstances it depends on the individual involved, their motivations, and their psychological make up. In either case, if one thinks for themselves, they can hold their convictions without hurting others.

Empowering a figurative text of words to be the end all truth will
allow people the ability to give self-righteous statements of
interpretation, saying that they were empowered by God to do so.

That is a rash statement. Taking the Bible literally does not mean that people will automatically start committing immoral acts in the name of God. Most people with a strong faith, use that faith for support of themselves and loved ones, and to act in loving compassionate ways. there will always be a few such as Emile that use it as a tool of hatred.

That is akin to saying that a lcak of belief in God can possibly lead one into devil worship. both statements while posibly true, are untrue in 99.999% of the cases(percentages totally made up by me:-) )

Even if "acts of love, compassion, and kindness" exist, there usually is no ideological room for those that do not believe.

There is no doubt that Chrisitianity is more exclusive than most religions. However, that does not make it evil or even wrong. From my limited knowledge of christianity, a true christian may not believe you are getting into heaven, but is stil supposed to treat you with respect and kindness. Since we dont beieve in christianity, thy're belief in our post mortal life should hold little concern for us.

Of course, this is a perspective issue, and I perceive that you don't run into issues with this daily in real life.

Am I an aetheist? NO, I am not. should that matter? If you are, again, why care what a christian says about post mortal fate? If you are sure of your conviction, it should hardly be a cause of concern.....

Nowhere does it say the "to understand the importance of" in this
definition.

It is the American heeritage definintion. sorry I can't past it here, I dont have it on this medium.

The question is, should we look at it the same way we would a textbook?

I think the answer is best left to the individual. To make a generalization that it shouldn't be taken a certain way is just as dangerous as saying it should. Personally I don't take it literally, that is as far as I am willing to go.

See the RMIL logs

Sorry, what is RMIL?

The reason I think it's safer, for me, is because it provides me not only with the answers I seek, but with the answers that people might not have thought to look for. That's all. No biggeh.

I would certainly never tell you what is or isn't safer or best for you. You are the best judge of that.

Mark

BTW, I sincerely appreciate the civility you have shown me in this "discussion".
