<won't meet the whisper>

So far, there is no whisper...the whisper could out to be .17 for all we know....I think you mean that Dell may not exceed consensus estimates (for many companies whisper/consensus estimates are the same thing)...

Let's see what % run-up the stock has going into earnings, but after a 40% haircut, I would venture to say that expectations are a little bit lower now than before <g> It would be ludicrous for anyone familiar with the industry to pin a .18 expectation on Dell for this quarter...but after all, that's not what whisper numbers are all about (are they?)...they are usually pretty useless...driven by those with an agenda (or a short)....(I am not implying you here...)

I still remember last November when the whisper for Dell quarter (according to a couple web sites) was .32-.35....when consensus was .27...How ludicrous was that?

I don't agree that .17 won't be good enough IF the forward is good and no major Y2K concerns are voiced...since Dell is not going to appreciate (or expected) at more than 100% a year, some pressure is off....a more normal stock growth now....

Just to be clear, anyone expecting more than .17 this quarter is being wildly optimistic, IMO...
