Neo, thanks, I am a listener concerning US regional identities.

Sometimes I am not sure about words:

"genteel" seems to be special use for
those states only.
I have an impression like "Gone with
the wind" in my mind. Or does it apply to
daily life nowadays also? And what is it
supposed to say then?

Derek claimed to be "young and
destitute" one time. I guessed it means
"with limited financial means".
Or is it a state of mind rather?

And would the word "folklore" apply to your
discussions? Or does this apply more to
"urban legends" (or rural ones)?

For the political/historical part I must
tell you I have come to hate the word
"geopolitical".
It is often used in the francophone
states, but you won't usually hear
it in German.
Recently I got the impression some
people think they can predict trajectories
of politics just like a physical scientist
does once he knows the "potential
energy surface" of a system.
What I abhor and don't believe in.

The geographical situtaion of Germany
on the continent cannot be changed of
course, and we cannot choose different
neighbours. But the future cause of
politics will be dependent on the internal
course of opinions. People that claim
they can predict this just by invocation
of the word "geopolitical", might influence
this course, of course.

But not predict it, if other opinions take
care to be well published and understood
as well.

I hope our current government will not
introduce the word into German politics.

Regards, MNI

Neo, sorry, misspelled, I said "cause" but
wanted to say "course", once in my previous posting.
