RE the info appliances, do you know what %tage of intc's is pc's vs servers? I had checked it out once but can not remember what I learned. The breakout would determine whether the article (that I can not find), which stated that ias would reduce the need for pcs and simultaneously reduce intc's primary position in the chip industry, had any factual basis behind it.

As for amd vs intc I was not recommending that they not remain competitive but rather that they not price war/discount themselves to death. To go back to my boeing vs airbus analogy. boeing has sold 100+ 717 aircraft at such big discounts in order 'to win' the dominant share in this plane category that it is believed they will make no $ at all on those orders. Don't you think that that is ludicrous and that there may be another way to remain competitive without doing each other in?.....its not too unlike that movie "The War of the Roses". Maybe there is no way to structure 'reasonable competition' but I would think that it is worth a try. And I agree competitiveness is what keeps BOTH amd and intc moving ahead.
