Hi John, I think the same issue would arise for CDMA, which is another digital modulation format. Namely, what is the voltage drop when the power is pulsed? Don't have the specific specs for the CDMA standards, but they're in roughly the same gigahertz range as the GSM signals.

Guess one thing for everyone to take away from this is that cell testing involves more than assessing whether the cells can hold charge for X number of recharge cycles, how this changes for different operating temperatures and rates of charge, etc. For example, the cellphone OEMs also need to assure themselves that the cells can adequately supply pulsed power (current AND voltage characteristics) for their specific modes of operation.
