OT. China Missiles Can Hit US Heartland, Says Report
1999.06.15¡@2:39am Taiwan time updated
Hong Kong, June 14 (CNA) Mainland Chinese missiles can now reach the heart of the United States after breakthrough technological developments, the Hong Kong Standard reported Monday.

Before the new developments, mainland missiles could reach only the US West Coast.

The report quoted mainland sources as saying that the development has reduced the technology gap with the United States from between 15-20 years to 5-10 years.

And it is now possible to target hundreds of missiles at once at the middle portion of the United States, the sources revealed.

The sources reportedly said the People's Liberation Army (PLA) had developed technology to use solidified fuel in missiles, enabling troops to point several hundred missiles at targets in the middle of the United States with high accuracy.

According to the report, in the past, mainland China had only 18 to 24 warheads ready for action, despite having the capacity for more, because of technological and financial constraints.

In addition, the PLA has evolved the technology to launch missiles from a moving launching base with high accuracy.
