Gene: re eBay, yes, they have to stop the screw-ups. It is still not clear to me if the new interface was the problem. The stories are conflicting and incomplete. But, reving back was probably a good move. They shouldn't change anything until a full 'hot backup' is ready. The # of auctions posted today was up 70,000 from yesterday. As a user of eBay, looking for hard to find items, there is nowhere else I have found worth the effort. That's what being being the market leader does: it pulls you through the inevitable problems.

Thanks for the clarification on their earnings; I was wondering about this.

>>I am not sure ebay will miss. They didn't say they would.<<

Frankly, the EBAY guys are AMATEURS who got *lucky*.
They have no clue on how to run an e-commerce shop.
Just compare and contrast with AMZN.
Like I said before. Omidyar should sell out to Bezos and go and enjoy his money instead of fumbling around in cyberspace!

I am disgusted with Meg's leadership too. She is one of the top 10 female CEOs in the country and to cower behind these problems as "bugs in Sun Microsystem code" is totally unacceptable. She should do a quickie PR piece with her standing behind ebay with a message something like "we have problems but we are working through them... thanks for your support loyal ebay customers", etc. and run it in the WSJ and local papers/radio. Bezos will outmaneuver her long term I sense.
