It looks like the AMD bears are crumbling today on a healthy volume.

Conspiracy Theory KH Yeap Monday, June 15, 1999 (1:45 AM EST)
According to this PC Week Taiwan report, despite its constant official rejection of PC133 standard, Intel is ready to roll out Memory Transfer Hub (MTH) in August to add PC133 support to the i820 chipset. Why the change of heart? Low yield of high speed Rambus, and various compatibility problems between Rambus and motherboards are the possible suspects says PC Week. Also, the same report says that Intel has already been experimenting with various methods of incorpating PC133 SDRAM support on motherboards in conjunction with Rambus. These methods include DIMM Riser, SRIMM and obviously, MTH. And Intel has allegedly approached some motherboard vendors to "express its strong interest" in seeing MTH incorporated onto i820-based motherboards. Interesting eh?

Hmm, I suddenly have a conspiracy theory to offer:
(i)Intel publicly claims that it won't support PC133 standard no matter what, and lets VIA spearhead and push forward the standard.
(ii) Secretly, Intel has been testing out the co-existence of PC133 and Rambus support on its chipsets and telling its customers its strong interest in seeing that happen on motherboards
(iii)When the PC133 standard becomes mature and widely accepted, Intel suddenly announces that it will support PC133 because it listens to customer demands
(iv)At the same time, behind the scene, Intel threatens to take legal actions against VIA if VIA does not immediately stop shipping Apollo Pro 133, the first legitimate chipset that supports PC133, to its customers. Along with that, Intel sends demo to motherboard vendors as well as ALI and SIS, "reminding them" of that possible legal action against VIA.
(v) Intel is now ready to beat VIA at its own game: Reaping in the profits of both PC133 and Rambus standards with i820, while VIA sulks trying to make ends meet with Aladdin Pro 133 late to the market, customers to reassure blah blah blah.

That's it! My conspiracy theory. Please NOTE that this is just pure wild speculation on my part and it may not hold water at all. So read it at your own risk, with a lot of salt, and do not take it seriously. And if you are from Intel, loosen up, this is just a joke!:P
