ORLANDO, FLORIDA--Entrust SecureSummit(tm) '99 -- Entrust(r) Technologies Inc. (Nasdaq: ENTU - news), a global leader for solutions that bring trust to e-business, has announced that it will work with Intel Corporation [Nasdaq:INTC - news], the world's largest chip maker, to build, extend and enhance trusted e-business with public-key based security across their current and upcoming software and hardware solutions.

The two companies will initially focus on the integration of Intel's platform security features with Entrust Technologies' product family of PKI, business and toolkit solutions. Future goals include joint work on new security services that will enable e-business opportunities for the Internet, embedded computing, the desktop and the enterprise as well as new security extensions and enhancements for transactional security, Virtual Private Networks, and policy and privilege management. A Memorandum of Understanding has been signed and the companies anticipate formalizing the agreement within the next sixty (60) days.

''Intel is leading the industry in delivering security capabilities in the platform, and working closely with leaders of security solutions to provide benefits to our customers. The Intel Random Number Generator is one in a series of security building blocks we're implementing,'' said Michael Glancy, general manager, Platform Security Division at Intel Corporation. ''We look forward to continuing this relationship with Entrust and delivering the security solutions necessary to reach our vision of a billion trusted, connected computers.''

''With the growth of e-business sites predicted to outpace the growth of Web sites by 2001 and Internet commerce doubling annually, security-enhanced applications are necessary to sustain and support this new age of electronic business,'' said John Ryan, president and chief executive officer, Entrust Technologies Inc. ''By harnessing the power of Intel's platform security features in conjunction with the Entrust product family, we now have the ability to jointly drive the adoption, incorporation and acceleration of enhanced trust services for e-business.''

Entrust Technologies' family of PKI, toolkits and business solutions will support the hardware-based Intel(r) Random Number Generator (RNG) which is included in the Intel(r) 810 Chipset and will be included in all future Intel 8xx series chipsets. The first Entrust solution to support Intel's platform security features will be Entrust/PKI 5.0, which is expected to be released commercially in Q4, 1999.

The Intel RNG harnesses system thermal noise to generate truly random and indeterministic values which help improve the ability of Web browsers and other Internet software applications to protect sensitive information that is sent over the Internet.

Entrust Technologies support for Intel RNG will bring immediate benefits to customers, partners and developers who are able to capitalize on the benefits of RNG without having to perform any additional development work.

''As Entrust extends their security solution, it provides a means for organizations to expand the security roles of their Domino infrastructure, leveraging their existing systems and skill sets,'' said Eileen Rudden, Lotus' senior vice-president, Communications Products Division. ''The upcoming release of Entrust/Express for Lotus Notes -- being shown for the first time at Entrust SecureSummit '99 -- demonstrates our commitment to provide our Lotus Domino customers -- and by extension more than 37 million Lotus Notes users -- a choice of security models.''
