DVD Report
(c) 1999 Phillips Business Information, Inc.

DV Studio Technologies (Irvine, CA) entered the DVD authoring market by touting the relatively low prices on two new products using its Apollo Expert MPEG-2 hardware encoder. For $2495, DV Studio is launching Apollo Expert Archiver, which outputs MPEG-2 video to an included Hitachi DVD-RAM drive. And for $3995, DV Studio will sell Apollo Expert Author, which includes DVD authoring software from Intec but leaves out the RAM drive. Instead, DV Studio is promoting Pioneer's $5400 DVD-R burner as a fully compatible output device, bringing the total system cost to just under $9400. "We expect to see even more competitively priced units from Pioneer and other manufacturers available within a year," said CEO Ash Pahwa. Both products run on Windows NT, and are available now.
