Some semi random thoughts: FWIW

Inet near term bottom may be at hand and fund money may be reentering (BWDIK). XCRx comment on the high volume down day is appropriate (IMO).... What is interesting is that the overall internet index (IIX) has come to rest on some serious resistance from early this year and the indicators are getting squeezed... From my take I think that I have seen recent large scale drops in top tier, yet only minimal "recent" disruption in the mid tier (granted many have already been whacked).

What needs to be added to the overall picture are, as Rande points out, NGI, set top boxes, broadband... These have, and continue to do well with BRCM packing it on as AOL, etc drop.... Has fund money moved stealthfully to these?

Also, the semis (SOX) have continued to do quite well with the likes of PRIA, ADI, GNSS, etc.. Renewed interest in these may be rotating funds off the Inets....

The number of IPOs has diluted speculative $$ making it harder to "pick the right one"...and thus dis-enfranchising a number of investors...

Last thing... many technical analysts still see the possibility of a drop into the DOW 8500 range reasonable ... so any up move in the inets may only be temporary is the overall picture...

develop your plan appropriately

Rande, This is a site I put together to track a baker's dozen of the large internets. It includes avg. volume and charts showing 50 and 200 day moving avg.

At Bottom? IIX has formed a dbl.bottom (W)...
If it goes a little higher, we're going to 265+ & it's over (bottom hit) & we're going higher; else, we could just wander around for awhile.

That's my SWAG.

(IIX=Internet Index)

IMHO

RandeIs: Recommendations on new buys for June/July

I am in accord with your thoughts on the internet stocks; I might nibble at one or two, but will not load up in earnest until much later this year. I think the usual summer doldrums, the specter of successive interest rate hikes, and the imagined Y2K problem will all combine to make the second half of the year quite volatile and not very profitable. I anticipate a second sharp correction later in the year and will purchase the internet stocks then.

Having said all that, what (if anything) would you purchase now as a short -term hold (6-8 weeks). I think earnings reports will be favorable and the market will have a brief but meaningful summer rally, and would like to hold some stocks that will do well during this period. Intel and Texas Instruments are my best thoughts; what are yours? Or, would you stay in cash?
