Nortel has always been perceived as the darkhorse in the race. The Bay and Micom acquisitions really did position them well going forward though. I know that the Micom acquisition is often forgotten, but some of the earliest merging of voice & data in a statistically multiplexed environment came from them (as you know). Still, I would bet the House's departure is directly related to contractual agreements to stay for a minimum pre-determined time which also probably corresponded to a vesting schedule or a performance bonus or other financial perk.
