Gateway backs Q2, full year estimates

MINNEAPOLIS, June 15 (Reuters) - Computer maker Gateway Inc. is comfortable with
ANALYSTS' consensus earnings estimates for its second quarter and full year, Chief Financial
Officer John Todd said Tuesday.

According to First Call Corp., analysts' mean estimate for Gateway's second quarter earnings is $0.55 per share; the mean
estimate for the full year is $2.83 per share.

They get .55 per share and we are concerned about breaking even. This is one REALLY SICK company.

dav: No, not again. I was in Bay Networks when House came on board from Intel. He was not such a hot shot. Although he did buy himself a $1 million worth of shares from the get go. Did very well for himself selling the company to Nortel and getting himself the top job in the process. But I think he is a boy scout type and not the visionary kind of guy COMPAQ needs.

FWIW several rumours in Houston that a CEO has been appointed - rumour is rumour, not info. Theories are that it will be announced when he is squared up awith his current situation.

I like the rumour because it fits in with what has been happening. The sudden departure of Rose and the other executives, the acting appointments - all these are cosnsistent with clearing the decks for the new man. But it is only a rumour.
