My recollection is of the time when they would not co-exist on the same O/S, (ie Windows), unless it was the proprietary model of a content provider such as AOL, who used to have a modified Netscape.
Then they went to a modified IE model... then they buddied up with Netscape on a higher level. My presumption would be that they would go back to some version of Netscape, but they haven't yet. My wife uses AOL because she is familiar with it and it's good backup.

The dual O/S setup using System Commander allowed for co-existence, but I just gravitated to IE with my ISP.
