Brooks,

I see this news as extremely positive. It demonstrates that Pete intends to be very aggressive in signing up new customers during the time that remains before Transpoint is launched. If he is successful, Checkfree may well have an insurmountable lead in EBPP.

I think the quickest way to convert people from paper checks to electronic checks is to offer free service while customers learn how to use the system. Once people have learned how to use the system and have grown to depend upon it, it will be easier to pay $4 or $5 a month for it than it will be to switch and learn another system (which probably won't be as dependable).

If people do switch from Checkfree to Transpoint and find that it is less reliable and customer service is poorer than Checkfree, then they'll be quicker to return to Checkfree. This makes it much more difficult for Microsoft to buy time to work the bugs out of their system.
