Ok, after several minutes taking a look at Zoran I noted several things that probably torpedo any idea that 3dfx was the graphic processor company that licensed the IP.

I look at Zoran's most recent corporate announcements fail to reveal any link to 3dfx or STB. However, I did find several links to Intel (via their new 810 chipset and 752 chip), Matrox (used Zoran in their 200TV) and ATI (shipped SoftDVD with the RAGE TURBO products).

Found two additional links to Zoran by 3D chip companies found by noticing that one of Zoran's directors is a partner at US Venture Partners.

Both Neomagic and 3dfx are companies that were partially backed by US Venture Partners prior to going public.
