Economic growth was spurred by the Second World War!! - and by America's role in providing arms for the Commonwealth - it was the war which rescued the American economy from the Depression. You're obviously unable to read the table of reserves - the US has over 50% of it's reserve assets in gold. Now is that important or isn't it? The US and other major holders of gold will support it and may be doing so now. The fact that gold is part of the CRB index doesn't mean anything - it is there because it has been regarded as a baromether of the cost of living.
