Tom did an excellent job of calling the top of the Internet stock bubble several weeks ago by comparing it to the Biotech bubble of ten years ago. The top index is the Biotech Index during the 1989-1993 period. The dark line below it is the Internet Index. What is amazing is that the time scale for each index is the same, demonstrating how the pattern of the emotional extremes of the herd can be repeated in a predictable way. There is a chart of the South Seas Bubble (1720-1721) in the June 14, 1999 issue of Barron's (page 45). It too is amazingly similar in shape and duration to the two bubbles above.
