I think that the new service is a brilliant move. It is a simple concept that is easy for the masses to understand. It is much less intimidating than Portico.

Also, by offering it for free it will attract many more users who would otherwise not take the chance to try something new. Hopefully this will hook more users for the long haul. At some point I assume GMGC will offer the service for a monthly fee as an alternate or replacement to the ads. Maybe $9.95/month. That would generate additional revenue and pay back for the NOC usage especially if it were displacing other NOC users (oh please let that be a problem).

Now for the most important part, imho. By attracting many more users due to it being free GMGC will be exposing them all to magicTalk. While customers are hooked by an ad that says "free e-mail from any phone" they will be astounded by how advanced magicTalk is compared to anything else they have ever used.

This is the first real step by GMGC to make magicTalk the defacto standard VUI. GMGC can use this service to begin raising the level of customer consciousness about just how special magicTalk is. My hope is that people will one day see "featuring magicTalk" and hear the GMGC jingle just as they now see "Intel Inside" with its jingle.

By spreading the user base far and wide regarding the magicTalk experience, even if it is not initially profitable, I believe GMGC is going be able to brand it as the premier offering in its class. That is when people will start putting a premium on other products and services featuring magicTalk. And that is when GMGC will have reached the pinnacle. It will take time, but sooner or later the market will catch on to what is happening here.

All in my humble opinion of course, and I know it doesn't solve the short term cash crunch, but I have bought into Dr. Markman's vision long ago. Though I am as frustrated as the next person about the stretched out time frame of the past year and the lack of support in the market for the stock price I am impressed by his confidence and can only hope that he is able to bring together the partners which are needed to properly channel GMGC's other products to its potential customers.

Best wishes to all believers in the magic.

Seconds Out.
