protege, regarding whether the extended trading hours on Nasdaq was motivated in part to reduce daytrading or not, I don't know. I find it interesting, however, that you mention this possible scenario because my husband and I were just talking today about that same thing. Anyway regardless if there were an actual motivation to this end or not, I do think that it will cause daytraders to be purists in that they won't be holding any positions overnight (unless maybe they're teamed with another and do "shifts").

I also think extended hours are going to cause more people to do thorough DD. It's easier to not worry about how your stocks are doing during extended hours when you feel fully confident with them in the first place.
