hb,

The short answer is "yes." I develop indicators based on observation... when I see a certain indicator characteristic which seems to occur in advance of some market move, I check further. If what is happening is repeated with other market moves, I put THAT one in the "possibilities" column. And if it makes any sense at all, I watch it like a hawk.

One of my indicators used for the electric utilities went sky-high 16 days before the Oct 27, 1997 "crash." It does seem to forcast downturns several weeks in advance of the moves. While it is moving up strongly right now, it is nowhere near what happened in 97. That is why I suggested we wait a day or so to see what happens.

How it may make sense is that the electric utilities are a "safe haven" for $$$. When risk becomes unbearable for some, WHAM, people opt for them rather than other alternatives.

Now I am not saying this is happening right now... but it LOOKS like it.

Thanks for asking.

Bill
