I'm seeing a lot of news / speculation / trial balloons lately regarding non-PC set-top boxes. Web TV either has or is working on some kind of deal with one of the satellite dish companies, AOL is sniffing around with one of the big consumer electronics companies, etc. Special-purpose boxes like those could be even cheaper than $399 and use plenty of DRAM as well. Other uses for all that DRAM?: - Make a slinky dress out of it, give to one of the Oscar nominees to get plenty of free press and stir up interest, open a sweatshop in China stocked by new Singapore fab - For the next couple of weeks, Appleton gives the anti-dumping campaign a rest and instead lobbies weekly lunch buddies in House & Senate to use DRAM instead of gravel in the asphalt for roads to be rebuilt in Kosovo - Use as new "tenth-of-a-cent" coin for cranks that buy exactly one gallon of gas for $1.19 9/10 for the lawnmower and bitch all weekend how Big Oil ripped them off again - Work with Mattel to create a hi-tech alternative to "Lego" blocks; centerpiece of new alliance: "DRAMland" in Southern California stocked with dinosaurs, miniature skyscrapers, etc. all built from interlocking 64M parts
