You know, some of this stuff is amazing to me. I didn't know about the Microdrive before, and it's really impressive just how small that thing is:

The new IBM drive cannot hold 40 hours of full motion hi res video.. that's absurd. 25 up to 70 megs per min of video is a useful 'range' for various compressed formats that border traditional broadcast quality. So a 37 gig drive would only have a range of approx 24.6 hours for DV to almost 9 hours of useful storage at lower compressions. fedele.com good read on compression and quality.

The newer cameras delivering 700 and up to HDTV, which I would consider "hi res video" consume considerably more.

Its a terrific drive, but once again, IBM hypes a great product just to sound incredible.
