Been trying to access Compaq's web-site for the past 20 minutes:

compaq.com

I guess it's down. That's not a good sign, is it?

NW--- <<"One good estimate busting quarter and a new President could turn this creature into a party PIG. NW">>

At this point ANY pres would make a difference,, EP returning would show a bigger rise than some of the names I have seen here.. I think CPQ will have to show MORE than 1 qtr. Probably more than a full year of estimate busting qtrs for many to trust them enough to put a few bucks in. Possibly just 2 to start seeing interest by the institutions again... So far Dr Rosen has identified some of the symptoms but has not addressed CURING the patient unless it is being kept secrete.

Not kicking it,, just seeing it as a sour investment without any emotional ties. It will become a smaller loss and it can sit for many years for all I care,,, but still do not expect to see the old high! Yes CPQ has a lot to offer and from the teens to 22 is a great buy but not worth the possible agrivation to many.

I too plan on retiring at age 55 in 3 years 10 months and seriously doubt CPQ will see its old high in that timeframe. I question if it will hit my avg cost. Not only the multitude of internal problems but it seems there will be more external hurdles it may have an even harder time getting over. A rate increase from the FED will see bus slow on all fronts. It will make stocks less inviting,,, especially those that are no longer a winner. A slight economic slow down means an even higher % of cheap machines and less purchases from all sectors for all products and services. CPQ not only has to fight for new business but I have a horrible feeling the competition MAY be eating CPQs lunch in many areas.
