They know a lot I don't know. Don't read too much into
rapidly getting to copper. EV67 is shipping in volume in .28
aluminum... boxes based on EV67 show up in the next few weeks.
You can order an EV67 uplift for the GS160/GS80 today (aka 8400/8200).

As you know, there are great advantages to copper. Higher performance
and lower cost. Intel realizes this hence their .13 micron copper.
Samsung anticipates binning 1100 MHz parts in .18 copper, 1000 MHz in
alum. Again, the IBM/Samsung/Compaq Alpha intrigue is *apparently*
still being played out. I don't know all the ins and outs. But
if you think about it, IBM would be a more attractive option in
some ways. Would give them an excuse to ditch the underwhelming
PowerPC arch. They certainly would love to not line Intel's pockets
and have an architecture they could "own". If you look at Alpha
futures (21464 aka Arana especially) Alpha has plenty of headroom
over and above Madilyn and McNuggets and DeerTick also.
