While I accept the bombing of the Chinese embassy for what it was, which was the misidentification of the building as being occupied by the Serb government, I can't say that I feel too remorseful about it. Shit happens. Especially in war. As far as having full confidence in the the exactness of military planning and mission execution, all I can say is that after 28 years in the U.S. Air Force as a munitions specialist, I stand in awe of the surgical precision with which the air war against the Serbs was conducted. Knowing, probably better than anyone else on this thread, that what NATO forces achieved in over 20,000 sorties, in devastating Serb targets while limiting non-combatant casualties to an unbelievable low, I am in complete and utter awe. Having said that, were I the Chinese, I believe I would have shown the brains God gave a rock and gotten the hell out of the line of fire in the ample time they had to do so. The regime in Beijing was probably overjoyed when the bombing occurred. If nothing else they long ago established that human life means nothing to them and they were happy for the opportunity to parade their mockery of grief and indignation on the world stage while continuing their ruthless disregard for the lives and rights of people in their own homeland. A thousand times more people were intentionally killed in Tiannamen Square than were accidentally killed in the embassy bombing.
