Gustave, very interesting, but I cannot even decide if it is plausible, much less true. In your theory, is the primary motivation anger, headline displacement, or some more subtle goal?

I believe that you hit the nail on the head about the causes and the truth of Coca-colagate. The entire incident would be almost laughable as a heavy handed attempt to divert attention from the disasterous world wide ban on Belgian foodstuffs, if it didn't in fact involve the potential for costing Coca-Cola millions upon millions of $.

I, for one, plan on registering my protest against the Belgian government by drinking several cases of Stella Artois in one sitting and then calling the tabloids, claiming that it made my head spin and caused frequent urination.
