G'day all - hi Larry, just in case you misinterpreted my comment when I said "this should please Larry somewhat," I wasn't referring to the link but my reaction of thinking China whine too much.

Yes, you are absolutely right that killing is killing. As you may aware of my backgrounds - since removed from SI homepage - I do abhor killing. Having said that, intent is an important element in human endeavour. Interestingly, the 8 army insurrection, resulting in the Unequal treaties, materialised with the pretense that China had executed a British [or American] sailor because he killed a native Chinese accidentally. Personally, being a fan of rational jurisprudence, I certainly think proper investigation is a good thing - let's hope we wouldn't be spending another $48MM.

Regarding to spying, I am still puzzled. I thought it was the norm more than an exception. Don't tell me the CIA is not wary of even its friendly counterparts like the MI5 or MOSAD. Having said that, I don't particularly react to the WH as strong as you are. Maybe I am too cynical in my old age <VBG>

No, I ve no idea of what has become of the Tianamen's activists except from the news now and then. As I ve stated before, IMHO, I ve never considered it a genuine movement. So, while some of them have genuinely become a matured conscientious human being - and a nationalist, I suppose - many have achieved their respective 15 minutes of fame.

best, Bosco
