Cpn: My impression is that COMPAQ has made a big play here in the consumer market, one that DELL will have a hard time replicating profitably. In my view there is no doubt that most new buyers will be attracted by the comfort blanket of being able to buy COMPAQ from a bricks and mortar shop, and discuss it face to face with salespersons, have the COMPAQ service warranty and general back-up, have the in-built internet access and inexpensive or free ISP and get top of the line printers and accessories for an all-in cost which is competitive with configurations which rely on cheap e-machines.
