I thought everyone on this thread knew all about merced and the other chips. That is why for a long time i have been blown away by all the grief the amd longs take for amd's missteps. INTC, lately, is really not that much better in executing but they have a lot of $ and so can weather there screwups plus there has been no one on their heels in terms of competition until amd and the k-6 and k-7. That it is why the k-7 has the potential to rock intc's world. If you crunch the numbers, the greater potential upside is with amd. And let me assure you, i suspect all of intc is not happy with this turn of events And it is why i put in an order to buy more amd this am..

Kevin - <AMD isn't the only company guilty of slips....>

Never said AMD was (the only). However, Intel's financials don't seem to take the drastic impacts that some other companies do when they slip. I do not necessarily agree with all th points in JC's piece. But yes, I, PB, admit that Intel has slipped on a schedule or two.

<AMD isn't the only company guilty of slips....>

And the point would be ... ?

Shouldn't be plain and obvious to anyone that if AMD slips up, they suffer big time, while if Intel slips up, it barely makes a dent in the bottom line? That's the nature of the situation right now. Even if (when?) AMD takes the performance lead with K7, their bottom line profitability is extremely intolerant of any slip-up because most of their eggs are in one basket.
