Texas Instruments Agrees to Acquire ATL Research

Dallas, June 15 (Bloomberg) reports TI, the biggest maker of semiconductors for cellular telephones, agreed to buy closely held ATL Research A/S of Denmark, adding technology to develop new functions for mobile phones.

TI hopes to use technology in developing advanced features such as remote control, electronic mail and Internet access for cellular phones.

In January, Texas Instruments acquired Butterfly VLSI Ltd. of Israel, another radio-frequency engineering firm, for $50 million.

ATL Research was founded in 1996 by three Danish engineers and now has about 30 employees. It will remain in Denmark and become a subsidiary of Texas Instruments. The purchase is expected to close by the end of the month.
