Gene, you're one of the few who thought divx was a good idea, probably your viewing habits and cares. On my DVD player, I play movies that I borrow from my brother for free, get widescreen on almost everything (anamorphic on many of those), get $3.50 rentals for 2 to 7 days, can take my movies and play them on friends' machines, and don't have to worry about when CC decides to abandon their format and hose my entire collection of eternally playable disks. The only unique thing divx had going for it was not having to return a disk -- just throw it in the landfill. But you do pay $1 more for each disk for that privilege, and your selection of disks was less and the extra features (such as widescreen) very rare. The biggest selling point of divx players is that they could play DVD disks. Hmmm. Betamax, on the other hand, did have better visual clarity, so that was a legitimate plus. BTW, I had to laugh at CC's mention of how most people left their stores with a divx player, therefore they were popular. Gee, commissioned sales force under pressure to sell those machines wouldn't have anything to do with that, now would it? CC +8 5/8 (+10.52%) this AM.
