Kinetin is mentioned in a new book, Dermatologist's Guide to Looking Younger by Dr. Lawrence J. Green(pg. 78). It's available at Amazon.com.

Here's what he says:

One way to smooth and soften the skin, and reduce the brown irregular spots and small wrinkles on your face, may be a product with Kinetin. Kinetin, an ingredient in some over-the-counter creams and lotions, slows aging in plants and enhances plant growth. Researchers in the Kinetin laboratory initiated a study to see if the compound would have the same effect on people. At the end of six months of daily Kinetin and sunscreen use, scientists noticed a slight reduction of irregular brown spots and a softening to the skin's texture.
Kinetin products can be compared in strength to over-the counter products such as retinols and alphahydroxy acids, which make the skin feel softer and smoother. The effectiveness of a Kinetin regimen compared to a prescription-strength alphahydroxy acids and Renova cream is unknown.
