Oak Technology Appoints New Vice President of
Worldwide Sales

Charles Parr to Spearhead Sales Efforts Domestically and Internationally

SUNNYVALE, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--June 17, 1999--Oak Technology (Nasdaq:OAKT -
news), a supplier of silicon, software and platform solutions to store, access and manipulate digital
content, today announced that Charles Parr has joined the company as vice president of Worldwide
Sales.

Parr joins Oak Technology with more than 20 years of experience in the integrated circuit industry.
With nearly 10 years of experience from VLSI Technology, including four years as the vice president
and general manager of its Asia/Pacific Operation and two years as vice president of North
American Sales as well as additional background from worldwide sales positions at GateField Corp.
and Sycon Design Inc., Parr brings a wealth of international sales experience to assist Oak
Technology with its concentrated customer base in the Japan and Asia/Pacific region.

Parr has been charged with the responsibility of forming a unified Corporate Sales organization from
the well established domestic and international sales teams that have served Oak Technology's three
core lines of business -- optical storage, consumer electronics and image processing.

Earlier this year, Oak Technology welcomed former Quantum executive Young Sohn as its new
president and CEO. As part of his initial charter, Sohn is architecting a turnaround plan for the
company. To assist in the implementation of this plan, Sohn has put in place a critical member of the
turnaround team with the hire of Parr and the functional alignment of Oak's entire sales force under
the direction of Parr.

''Because of his extensive knowledge of the silicon industry and his years of international selling
experience, Charles is an excellent candidate to direct our sales efforts domestically and
internationally,'' said Sohn.

''As Charles will be the primary medium between the Company's current and targeted customer
base and the Company's business units, he will be instrumental in assisting with Oak's timely
execution of key product development efforts, and defining and implementing a new strategic plan.''

Prior to joining Oak Technology, Parr held consecutive vice president of Worldwide Sales positions
at Sycon Design Inc., a start-up technology venture with emphasis in the EDA market and Gatefield
Corp., a start-up FPGA company. Prior to these start-up corporations, Parr had an extended tenure
with VLSI in positions focused in sales, marketing and international operations.

Parr joined VLSI in 1985 as part of their start-up Logic Product Division that quickly evolved into
its successful PC Chip Set Division, achieving number one market position by 1992. Parr held
various positions for the company, including director of marketing for PC chip set products; vice
president and general manager, Asia/Pacific Operation and vice president, North American Sales
and Technology Centers.

Parr has both a Bachelor of Science in Electronic Engineering and Master's in Business
Administration. He received his BS from California Polytechnic State University and his MBA from
Arizona State University.
