Does anyone know how ALSC's investment in Chartered Semiconductor
fits into all of this? On their last (3/31/99) balance sheet
( biz.yahoo.com ), they show the following investments:

1999 1998
Investment in Chartered Semiconductor 51,596 51,596
Investment in United Semiconductor Corp. 80,953 85,935
Investment in United Silicon, Inc. 16,799 13,701

The recent news releases only seem to talk about the USC and USI
investments. Was there a previous merger in Taiwan?

Also, is anyone else thinking that ALSC could be a potential buyout
target just to get their production rights in the foundries? With the
current stock price, it would seem that you could get them for almost
nothing. Everything I've seen recently indicates that the industry
will be capacity constrained in the very near future?
