Hey all,

What do you guys think of PRTL. I went long at 21 two weeks ago and have seen it bounce between 19.5 and 23. I think it looks good with accelerating earnings, and it may become a target as the baby bells enter the long distance fray, which I understand might happen later this year. What do y'all think.

Another one I like is MMWW. Got over extended and has been coming down, but it looks like it has pretty good support around 19. But, anything that didn't go up today....

Hi Dale,

Angie and I have been at an outdoors writers' conference and communing with nature at Mount Shasta. Imagine!! Taking a drink of water--safely--as it bubbles up out of the lava rocks.

I wish you luck on BXM. I think it's a good co., based on my DD. I confirmed before I left that my ortho, Dr. Steadman is still using Synvisc in his practice. He is acknowledged to be one of the best, if not the best knee ortho. in the world. Still, the inventory issue concerns me. I got out of SFSK before it was quartered by its inventory problems. I may miss the BXM initial spike if the inventory issue turns out to be a red herring, and the huge short postition gets squeezed, but there will be plenty of additional opportunities.

Too bad about the Yahoo BXM board though. Its posters used to be some of the nicest.

Re. Nite. Amazing. End of day yesterday it was down over 30% from where I sold last Mon. But no, I missed out on its run today, and it looks like it will go some more, at least at the open. It's still 38% down from its peak. I was not tracking NITE while I was gone. I thought I'd take a little break from the market until Greenspan announces, and the market sorts itself out. I know--cluck, cluck.

That's one of the problems with trading as I have been. I miss the big drops when I'm disconnected ( I hate sell/stops). That's good. But I also miss the big springback opportunities too. Today was one of those. I've thought about setting limit/buys before I leave on a trip for attractive cos that are getting beaten up in order to take advantage of situations like NITE.

Still, I'm up significantly this year and off 4.7% from my high last month. I notice after I have a big gain, or recover from a loss, and am back in cash, I tend to relax a little. The market never relaxes. Duh. I think my pattern results from the need to pull back and recharge a bit after the stress of active, fairly high stakes trading in one or a few issues. And, where I used to get upset about missing those "opportunities of a lifetime," I've come to realize that 1. I'm not going to get them all; 2. I've been getting my share of them; 3. There will always be more. 4. It's better to miss out on a big score than to feel obligated to be "in action" when the opportunities are too fleeting or aren't opportunities at all but traps that can lead to big losses if one isn't disciplined and alert.
