Check out how many different chips in various form factors Intel will have for
sale in Q4. I count about 20!

I feel sorry for the vendors...


I feel sorry for Intel's competitors having to put a comparable chip next to each Intel one.

Misplaced sorrow! They have choices now. They can address the specific needs of their customers with a supplier like Intel that gives them alternatives.

Yeah, I suppose this will no doubt cause a lot of confusion for the vendors, unless Intel manages this market segmentation well. But hey, Intel has handled the segmentation all right thus far, no?

As for the vast array of different chips, it's only the tip of the iceburg. I've seen some confidential internal roadmaps, and there were a lot of project names shown on one slide. And that was only for servers! (IA-64 and IA-32.)
