Shane - re: "Because Fab 30 is new, it could make maximum use of SMIF pod automation. Much of the fab can operate with a less-expensive Class 100 cleanroom environment since the wafers are contained in a protected pod, Saltich said."

The Dresden photo showed an OPEN wafer cassette at the load station in front of the operators.

This was clearly NOT A SMIF Interface station.

Shane - <future fabs have wafers sealed from the outside environment in mini- and micro-environments. This will hopefully mean that operators will have to wear nothing more than white coats and cleanroom shoes in a class 1000 environment.>

I'm wondering if my new gig to be, D1C, will be pretty far along this route? I haven't checked into the layout aspect yet.
